New to Arlington Heights - recommendations?
Hello, I'm searching for a few personal recommendations for:
- Best place for an oil change (that isn't Jiffy Lube)
- A Veterinarian: Any experience with Arlington Heights Animal Hospital? I have a 14 yo dog... [I've heard bad things about Care Animal Hospital (aka Animal ER), so I'm trying to stay away from them.]
- and a really good place to take guests out for dinner
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Oil change and mechanical: go to Wheeling Auto, on HIntz between Schoenbeck and WIndsor/Buffalo Grove. Free loaners, honest service writers, pleasant waiting room. Call first Wheeling Auto Center (Arlington Heights,IL)
Restaurants: Not fancy, not dumpy just very tasty: My Thai on Dundee just east of Buffalo Grove in WHeeling. Downtown AH: Regina's for Italian and there is also a good Mexican restaurant that is nicer than usual Fuego's.
Our cat goes to Care Animal Hospital so I don't have any tips there.
Welcome to the neighborhood. Have you had a chance to stroll around Lake Arlington yet?

altThai is good.
It's clean, presentable, but leans towards more expensive.
It's off of Arlington Heights road, between NW Highway and Sigwalt Street.

For a restaurant: try La Tasca...near the train station.... VERY good tapas and a fun crowd. And you can't beat the Uptown Cafe for breakfast.

I prefer Gumbrai Thai and the Bangkok Cafe, both in Arlington Heights within two blocks of the train station. Both are less expensive than AltThai and have a more relaxed atmosphere.

La Tasca is good. Danny, the owner is aces! Egg Harbor Cafe is also delicious for breakfast and lunch.

Where abouts in Arlington Heights? It's a pretty big suburb.

AH Animal Hospital - I have heard that they overcharge (do tests that aren't needed, keep animals overnight when it's not necessary) but I have never been there myself. We go to Rand Road Animal Hospital in Palatine. I recommend it

Wow - thanks for all the suggestions! We are definitely going to try all of them, eventually. We are planning on being here long term, whether or not the restaurant will be that's another question.
Would love to hear from any one who's been to Arlington Heights Animal Hospital...

La Tasca is a bit pricey and small. There is nothing worth it downtown AH, but down the street from la Tasca is The Wellington which is awesome. You wont go home still being hungry like La Tasca.
The AH downtown ares is filled with places that are trying to cater to a small group of yuppies who live in the high rise condos and pay a million dollars for 1 bedrooms. That's why ever business in downtown AH is either broke or close to going broke and will close soon. Peggy Kinneans is an Irish bar/rest that is so overpriced its nto even funny. Bottom line is they are horrible. But even with their high prices they are set to close pretty soon. La Tasca's owner owns his whole building so they are always going to stay there. Other than that you have California Pizza kitchen (chain) Starbucks (chain). Family run business in AH are GONE. And have been gone since they gave the downtown area a face lift. The downtown area used to be so nice, now its horrible.
