True. I rode through Homewood today shopping and then made a few stops in Posen, Midlothian, some of Harvey....and amazing I was not frightened....I got scared once I rode through Markham....lol then I decided I ought to go back home to safety!
I think Harvey is worse than Markham, more board up houses and decay in Harvey. At least this year, I haven't read about as many murders as two years ago. I think the biggest downfall about the south burbs are the schools. Violent Crime this year been on the downfall it seem around the south burbs. Country Club Hills has some nice subdivisions with big houses.

Well I don't live in Wheaton and really have not since the 90's but my mother still does. And I visit about 4 times a year. I love the fact that if I go around 30 miles east I can be in the city and 30 miles west and I am in the country. Love the low crime, great schools, friendly life long residents, I love the housing stock.

Great responses everyone. I am very grateful for your answers. I am enjoying reading, looking forward to more :-)

I like what NorCal says above: 30 minutes either way, and I'm in a new world lol

I've only been to a few burbs so far (Evanston, Shaumburg, Algonquin, Oak Park, whatever is in-between and to be honest...

I'm SHOCKED!

I spent time in Miami, NYC, and now Chicago and I've never been so in love with any burbs before.

I love the land, I love the seasons, I love the people are down to earth.

And I can't wait until I'm no longer in the city

I love you guys... E-Hugs...

I spent most of my life in Zion, Illinois and while many have complaints about it, myself included, I appreciate it's diversity. When I went off to college I didn't experience culture shock like most of the other sheltered suburbanites, I actually felt very comfortable and fortunate to have been raised in such a diverse atmosphere.
