I worked for the same company for 29 years, and then they announced the closing of the plant, laying off 400 workers. Before the plant closed reps. from the ill. unemployment office came to the plant to offer info. One of the things they discussed was that you could get a part-time job to supplement your unemployment benefits until you secure a new full-time job. they discussed all about how it will not affect your benefits at all as long as your part-time wages are 50% or less than what you are drawing from unemployment. And if you went over 50% they would deduct dollar for dollar from your benefits. So I did indeed secure a part-time job making well below the 50% mark. I worked eight part_time shifts over a two weeke period. And discovered that this part-time job was not for me. I hated it and the training was terrible. So I quit that part-time job. Never in a million years did I think this would affect my unemployment benefits. The reps. never said if you quit that part-time job you will lose all your benefits, same with the unemployment handbook. Can this be right?
