Everything in Cook County Illinois, is based on Race plain and simple.........

Sad but its true, the south burbs are good place to live, I live in Oak Forest, west of lansing, there are three small surburbs between me and lansing, One of which is the most poorest village city, municpality in the world Phoenix Harvery area,

Dont get me wrong Mattesson is ultra rich and black, Oak Forest is ultra white and middle to poor

Lansing is somewhere above me, but near predominately black,

Why I mention race so much is because its the norm, only a few areas, can you find a mix neighborhood, racially that is, otherwise, every burb, every section of Chicago, is either all of one race,

Schools, Churches, Malls,

Being from Georgia, you should know about forced segregration, Here its voluntarilly segregration, everybody, most live this way...........

Schools, in South Burbs, ok, to poor, most people go or have gone to Catholic school, In my family going to public school, was a threat made by my parents, for misbehaving,

Shopping, is tops, Land space, tops, cost of living, tops, Home values tops,

I bought a one bed room house in Oak Forest, it takes me five hours to cut my front and rear lawn, with a push mower, and I paid less than seventy thousand,

Water system is tops,

Floods Natural Disasters, Power Outages nearly never,

Crime, well this is the Chicago land area, and most of your police, in lansing, as well as posen, and adjacent burbs, can be bought easily, every body and your mother are crooks in Chicago

Garbage pick up and service cheap and frequently

Lansing, has excellent position in state, next door is Indiana, cheap gas cigs and liquor, plus fireworks,

Lansing was first south burb to build major strip joint, Minutes from Sox park, downtown chicago, soldier field,

The town to move into and if you can afford it is Crestwood, every year, every property owner, gets all their unspent tax money sent back to them, very progressive thoughts, Mayor, is famous, and appears on CNN a lot ..........Ex school, gambling, river boat casino, maybe........but shopping good god, can you shop excellent shopping

My advice, if you have kids, and they are not teens, yet, dont move into lansing, Think more west of lansing, three to four towns over westward.........

I moved to Lansing last summer from Park Forest. I've been familiar with the south suburbs all of my life and I find Lansing to be a nice town. I am african american and I believe there is only one other african american family on my entire street but it's okay. My neighbors are friendly and we spend yard time together quite often.

One thing I would like to mention which was posted incorrectly by one of the other posters is that Lansing is NOT predominately black. It's the total opposite. I sometimes go to the grocery store and realize that I am the only black person in the entire store. While driving down the street I notice that almost everyone I see is white.

When we moved, I was looking for an even mixture of blacks and whites. I have a daughter in TF South who I didn't want to attend Rich East and that is our reason for moving. I know there are lots of white people who are concerned when too many of another racial group invades their neighbhorhoods. Black working class people face the same problems as white working class people. No one wants to live around trouble and we are looking for a nice quite neighborhood to raise our children just like everyone else. My husband and I are professionals and want whats best for our family. I would just like to say to those who are fearful of change, it's not always bad.

My only concern about Lansing is that it's close to Calumet City and I hear a lot of bad things are happening there. Hopefully I can get my daughter through high school and on to college before too much change takes place in Lansing.

We moved to Lansing last fall and are very happy with the area. It's family oriented and quiet. The schools are decent and I love the proximity to Indiana.

While house hunting last year I found that the homes in Lansing were comparable to the homes in Homewood but more affordable. My only concern is Calumet City which has been in the newspaper and on the radio, even as recently as today.

I couldn't agree more with mediamonster's statements. Being against drive-by shootings, high crime rates, watered down school curriculums designed for ill-prepared, disruptive, authority defying, students, is not the equivalent of being against diversity. Come on Renee9468 - A good school system is a reflection of who is living on my block - and yours. A school with a 70% minority population with none of those minority parents serving on the pta, or helping out at school functions leads to programs being discontinued. Kids who never do their homework, stay up all night, show up late every other day and speak a separate, unintelligible language lead to more programs designed to meet the needs of the "at risk" and fewer for the prepared, and conscientious. Ethnic groups and like races stay separate because they like it that way. We all want to hang with those who share similar values, morals and standards. In Lansing's schools, white students are the minority - and that's why I am moving. Stop blaming white people for all of the Nation's ills - please.

Exclamation hold on a minute

REnee6498 it is not racist to say that a town is changing, which lansing is. The area i live in is prevalent with crack addicts and heroin addicts and crime, i know this because i walk past the park near my house and there are crack users there or heroin needles in the park sometimes. this has got to change but if people deny the reality then it won't. other then some faults though lansing is a good place to live in and i like it a lot. diversity is a big thing and the town is changing but slowly so it will maybe stay intact for awhile, hopefully.

Amen brotha!

I was looking into a job in Lansing (stiill am) and I was curious about the area, So i asked my family about the area and they just laughed. Dont know what that means......but they hail from Cal city back in the day. Im from Hoffman Estates, now living in Orlando with intentions on going back to Chicagoland.

Red face Cook County Taxes

I worked in Munster and lived in Highland. We considered Lansing for housing but we got a much nicer home to rent in Highland for the cost vs. Lansing.

I also hear everything in Cook county is taxed high. Like groceries and such. I don't know if that's true...

Cal City is going down, fast. Be careful of that area!

Wow. My two cents is that I grew up in the River North area of Chicago, and am so glad I did. The south side of Chicago (and south suburbs) have always been racially segregated. I thank my lucky stars I was not raised there! Most Blacks and Whites that live there are very closed-minded. Which is why I am raising my children in River Forest (borders Oak Park). Although it is natural to harbor certain prejudices based on your experience(s), it is ridiculous to believe that all Blacks/minorities aren't involved in PTA, homework assignments and the like. I feel sorry for your children. By the way, I am a Black woman.

For those of us who have grown up on the south side, racial segregation is all we know. I've lived in Lansing for some time and the element of people moving into town now are not of a desirable nature. Most are from the poor sections of the south side and they bring their problems with them. I'm more than willing to get along with my neighbors but it's hard to do when you get the gangster stare from them because I'm white. Here's to another nice town going down the drain. I also don't believe that Lansing will be another Homewood, there's too much section eight housing in lansing. If this is what "diversity" is, you can keep it.
