Barrington Village...Bad Areas? (Hillside, Lake Barrington: townhome, high school, living in)

Looking in Barrington Village (buy or rent) but someone told us there are a few bad areas in Barrington Village. Looking for other opinions from people that actually live in Barrington or that have lived in Barrington. All looks good to me just older than we typically are accustomed to.

Specifically areas around the high school.

Well, I am out in California, and have been looking into Barrington myself...I have heard very positive things about this area. If I am incorrect, someone please correct me.

But go on Realtor.com and check out homes in your price range, and that should give you an good idea of what the area is like, also check out the schools on www.greatschools.net

Barrington schools are outstanding! The number one reason I'm looking there.

Yeah I though it was kind of a joke when I heard this but I guess you never know. The village is cool as heck. Most of the home are 60+ years old which I don't mind at all. time to down size anyway.

Barrington is mostly upper class, and very, very, very safe. I dont think towns come much safer in the country. lol

I don't know if some of our friends know the difference between lets say Port Barrington and Barrington Village. I think that's where some of the confusion comes in. Possibly. Although they are in Miami now anyway

"Port Barrington" has NOTHING to do with any of the real Barringtons.

I don't think everyone knows that thought (I didn't at first). The idea though is living in Lake Barrington and other areas are not really the same as Barrington Village. That's why I posted the questions because Barrington Village seems nice. some homes around 300k and close to everything.

didn't Port Barrington change it's name from something else to gain status? I could be wrong, but I thought there was a town that did that.

The "bad areas" in the Village of Barrington could be the "nice areas" in other towns... It's all relative. For example, there are a few apt./townhome complexes (which contain many corporate relos) that may be the lowest price point in town (though I'd hardly call them "bad"). The complexes are near Lake Cook Rd. & Northwest Hwy., near the CVS, and Eastern Ave.

There are also pockets of run-down houses near Grove School, Roslyn Rd., and also the High School but many of these homes sit next to new/renovated multi-million dollar houses. IMO, these "run-down" homes have the greatest potential for appreciation if you can do the work. There are also some great deals now for beautiful, historical homes off of Hillside (a busier street). You may also find deals on houses that sit north of the RR tracks due to the newly increased CNN railroad traffic (google this).

The Village of Barrington is a great place to live and the schools are excellent (have posted statistics on this many times). Let me know if you have any other questions as I do live in the Village and have kids who attend the schools...
