I grew up on lake shore dr, but they drained in when I was four drained it and laid sewer lines though the lake bed. There is still big springs that gush water at the bottom of the old bed. There is a couple of houses built along the old dam right in front of the road that that has water spewing though the pavement cause of the springs good luck I say

Hi. I remember when I was about 10 in the late 50s we would go to lake Marion for swimming and a picnic down by the lake. This was a place that was the origin of the gated community without the gate but a guy on a chair by the entrance to make sure you were a resident or owner of a lot. I don’t remember how many lots there were but I don’t remember to many homes had been built at this time. I remember from the lake parking area to the lake was a long walk down a rocky hill. I think at one point carpenterville tried to buy this area but the lake Marion home owners refused. I remember that carpenterville was thousands of identical little homes. I remember afterward we would stop at a nice restaurant called the ****-a-doodle. They had a large size rooster in the parking lot carved out of wood we would sit on. A couple years ago I was in the area and found lake Marion road and followed it but never came to anyplace I recognized although carpenterville looked almost the same.
