Lots of poor dumb, young whites in Cook County Jail...and I don't need to ask a lawyer.
And Archie Bunker? 3/4 of the folks of his generation with his attitudes had moved to the red lined, all white quickly and cheaply built suburbs and left poor Archie to deal with the urban changes best he could. That was the humor of the show. And he did OK, complaining about it but making do. And we dial up the time machine 20-30-40 years and those same quickly and cheaply built suburbs are now homes to our latest immigrants seeking affordable place to raise their families peacefully.
Has it all worked out to everyones satisfaction? No. But the suburbs were never heaven on Earth. Might have seemed that way when the houses were all new, Mom didn't have to work, we all talked the same language...but those days are gone and it's time to do just what Archie did...***** about it if you want but move on to the next project.

Who cares if there are less whites? Don't you know that people cannot help what skin they are born in? I'm sure if I were white, then everyone would love to have me as a neighbor, but since I'm not, they will question how long it'll take "my kind" to ruin the neighborhood...how sad and disheartening . Oops, guess it's my bad I'm a mutt...
I guess it's amazing to you that people still live in, buy properties and raise families in Morgan Park, Bolingbrook, Galewood, and Albany Park...haven't heard of anything happening to them...

You like to mix it up and stir the pot on race, huh? 4 messages posted on your profile---all on race.
Personally, I like actual facts and data on things such as the jail population----I'm personally not interested in hearing rants about race and terms like "everyone in the city knows"---"ask a lawyer".......... Freaking Unbelievable.

I can't believe you even request this stuff from people, or are too lazy to google it yourself. I'm sure these national stats can be interpolated to higher ratios for blacks and latinos at Cook County's Jail.

Downtown La Grange was a crap hole in the 1980s, and now it's quite lovely. Many suburbs along Metra routes are booming with new downtown or downtown-style development.

That's typical. Focus on one small locus of gentrification and forget about all the rest of the suburbs, like Franklin Park, that have gone down massively. Personally, rather than looking at a few trendy restaurants as the sign of things, look instead at the status of the high schools to see the decay and anti-culture that's taking place in the burbs.

I'm just pointing out that some suburbs are getting better while others are declining. Many of the suburban areas that existed in 1979 have certainly declined, but many suburbs that seemed to be tired and declining in the 1970s have found new life. And don't forget that much of today's Chicagoland didn't even exist thirty years ago. The building boom on the suburban fringe has been rapid and has added thousands of new subdivisions to the metro area.
It is clear that the deconcentration of poverty in the central city has dispersed Chicago's poor into suburban areas that were formerly more upscale, but this is what often happens as housing stock ages and tastes change.
For every school that has gone down the tubes, I suspect a brand spankin' new school has been constructed in the ex-urbs with wonderful facilities and high test scores.

The net is negative, not zero sum. Too much anti-culture out there in America these days, I feel sorry for the youth actually. We need to take all the kids' hip-hop clothes out of the closets, outside, and burn them, then press the reset button on American culture before it's too late and too far gone.
