Default Anyone familiar with abbott park/lake bluff

We are moving to Chicago area and my husband will be working in Abbott. We are thinking of renting an apartment or house in lake bluff (huntington st or w.heiden circle). We don't know the area well and we havn't been there to search for houses (just looked over the net).

Could someone please let us know if it is possible to walk over to Abbott park. The distance is only about 0.5 miles but the realtor says you can only drive to Abbott from there. What are the streets like and is Waukegan road a major highway where you cannot walk? You need to cross it to get to Abbott.

It would be helpful if he could walk over to place of work as we have only 1 car.
thanks in advance.

Definitely rent until you get a sense of the market out here.

I think Abbott does not allow people to cross Waukegan on foot. It's quite a compound and the road is VERY big. That said, I know for a fact that Abbott has a shuttle that runs from the Lake Bluff Metra station to the Abbott Park facility.

Ask Abbott HR if they have other shuttles or if there are "walkable" routes to the office.

Good luck!

Abbott park is gated---and people only drive through the gate. I have never seen anyone walk on Waukegan Rd. to get to work.

Waukegan road is wide, busy and cars drive fast. No sidewalks. A person could walk though if they wanted to, but you might have to walk in the grass on the shoulder. Not ideal. I know the apartments around there so I have an idea what you are asking
