Default Water Costs in South Burbs

So I live in Orland Hills as many of you know and I got my first water bill! $140 for one month! WHAT!? In Iowa I was paying like $15 a month.

I heard that american water is really overcharging people here in this area. Is there any other options? I mean for $140 a month, I wonder if its cheaper to just dig a well or see if mr. Culligan could help...

3 questions, besides my rant...
1) What is normal water use for a household of 2? On our bill it says we used 14 100G whatever that means... I think that means 1,400 gallons which seems high.
2) Is anyone doing anything about this water problem? I read about some places like homer glen thinking about buying the municipal up... is there any news like in in Orland Hills? This almost screams class action lawsuit to me.
3) Any other options for water? Culligan, well?

Knat

According to Orland Park:

"Water, sewer, and storm water service revenues are used to pay for the cost of water purchased from the City of Chicago via the Village of Oak Lawn, as well as the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the water, storm, and sewer systems."

Generally speaking, the further a municipality is from the source of water and the number of interim acquisitions, usually has an impact on the cost of water.

Your municipality is not going to allow you to dig your own well and the cost to do so is likely prohibitive.

Those who use a private source for drinking and cooking water usually do so for reasons of taste, not economic reasons. This is unnecessary when the water is coming from Lake Michigan.

The water used to bathe, launder and water the landscape usually represent the lion's share of usage.

I live in the Village of Barrington which maintains its own private wells and resells the water. Our water bills are quite low...but here's the rub, the sewer bills are high.

I am not surprised. I live not too far from you, but my water bill is rarely over 20 dollars. I am really lucky, eh? lol

If I were you, I would call the municipality and ask some questions for sure...not sure how I'd feel in your situation lol
