What are the Chicago suburbs lacking?

I'd like more (or any!!) taverns in walking distance of home. One of lifes pleasures in hoisting a few with fellow members of the human race. These Internet sites have taken the place of the local tavern. But geez it was nice when you could walk 6 or 8 blocks have a few pints and talk, argue, laugh and cheer your team with likeminded souls and walk home. But damn the taverns are all "out there" away from where people live and only a fool would consider driving.

I've got a few good places to hang out near home, but I will agree there needs to be a few more decent neighborhood hangout spots...life was different when people actually interacted face to face...I love computers and having so many uses for the internet, but I'd like more F2F...and I can agree with the whole WAY OUT THERE thing...I am not driving way out anywhere just to warm a seat and watch the game.

No way for any bicyclists to travel around in any safe manner.
There are good bike trails but I am talking on main roads.

No wonder we're all obese. WAY too car centric.

the burbs lack a real name that suburbanites can use. NYC got long island or north jersey. la has so cal. SF has the bay, MIA has dade county or they say south florida. But chicago has...........chicago. Why do i say that? because even people from as far as batavia claim to be from chicago even tho they havent been anywhere except downtown. Now if they were originally from the city then i can understand but otherwise...No.

Chi-land, really? Chicagoland is embraced by the peopleand we like it. Besides, South Florida /= Chicagoland nor is socal. etc.
