Default safety of gurnee, grayslake, lake bluff areas

We are moving to the Chicago northwest area and will be renting a home. This forum has helped us tremendously in finding an area to live in the northwest/north suburbs.

We have narrowed down our search to Grayslake or Gurnee. We need to be near to Abbott labs but not many houses are available in the Lake bluff area to rent. (that would have been our first choice).

There are some houses in Gurnee that are quite inexpensive to rent compared to other houses.

One is "Hazelwood Ct #-, Gurnee, IL" and other is "Keith Ave Gurnee, IL 60031". It is about 5-10 minutes away from Waukegan which you guys don't rate very well. Will these be safe areas to live on with kids?

I know most of you have rated gurnee, grayslake and lake bluff quite safe, but are there any areas in those areas that I need to look out for?

I am a bit paranoid when it comes to safety.

Thanks in advance! You people have been my only source of getting to know about these places.

Hazelwood ct in Gurnee is a much better choice than Keith ave. Keith ave is basically like your living in
Waukegan and is isolated from most of Gurnee. The school system serving Keith ave, Gurnee 56, is not rated as high as Woodland district 50 that your kids would attend if you chose the
Hazelwood ct location. The Hazelwood ct location is centrally
located in Gurnee and right next to a huge and very safe park. Personally, I would never consider living on the east end of Gurnee near the Waukegan border, such as Keith ave. The Hazelwood ct location is very safe.

i have lived in grayslake since 1995 its a great town safe, quiet, very clean. grayslake is generally more expensive then gurnee. gurnee has more people and feels like a city grayslake is big but has a smaller town feel. the school districts in the area are grayslake high school dist 127 and warren. grayslake is better in terms of education then warren, while warren is way better in sports. there is also grayslake grade schools which are ok but woodland dist 50 in gurnee are way better funded. if you move to grayslake and live in between rt 83 and rt 45 you will attend both dist 127 and dist 50 which is best of both worlds. however grayslake does have higher taxes and some traffic problems (due to the town growing faster then the roads). gurnee does have traffic problems too but their roads are built to deal with it. no matter which town you pick you will be happy. good luck choosing hoping i helped at all.

Due to the short-sightedness of state & local politicians to not build the rte 53 extension(so far) and/or expand 83/45/120. Geez, traffic was bad already 15-20 years ago! What in blazes takes them so long to expand road capacity to keep up with traffic levels??!

i agree that they should of thought ahead with the road situation but when you look at how fast the town grew from 1990 to 2003 grayslake would continually have to extend the roads. no one expected the town to grow that much. and with rt 53 it will never happen so people should give up on it there are too many expensive homes with owners with expensive lawyers in the way. and not to be mean but when you post in here it should be to help these people find the right place to live not to fill it with politics- thanks

Traffic is a BIG negative to living in Grayslake. That is why I brought it up. I do hear they are planning or building a rte 120 bypass around Grayslake-is that true?
