Want to Meet People and Give Back to Community - Darien/Willowbrook Area (Chicago: home)

Hi - I am on the senior management team of a social service organization in Cook County, but want to do fun, active things in my spare time, including volunteer my time/give back to my local community. I like to bike ride (purely on an ammateur level - my back his streamers ), I have 2 dogs that are always up for a walk and I like to garden. I live in the Darien/Willowbrook/I-55 Corridor area. I am also interested in meeting people of a similar age group (low 40's) to network and develop friendships with. I've been in my current home about 5 years now and haven't really met anyone in the area. I looked into the Darien Rotary Club, but the meetings are during the day (while I'm at work) and seemed to be a bit of an "older" crowd. I read several posts of young couples or 20 somethings - anything out there for a bit older crowd? Any ideas?

I would suggest that you check with your local library (Library Friends groups) and Park district. Park districts often look for people to teach a class etc. or coach, things for people with pets, etc. Also, check with your local chamber of commerce. Libraries do a variety of programs, used books sales, reading discussions, stuff for kids.

You might like the Chicago meetup groups. I found all type of different grups form couples who meetup for dinner to animals and politics. I did not look at all the groups.
