Not all of New England is charming. You have to get far away from the major cities to find the charming areas, and you can do the same in the Midwest. We're not too far from Door County, Galena, etc, and those areas are incredibly charming. Were you to show a photo of, say, Galena or Fish Creek to someone unaware, they'd probably guess it was New England.

I have never set food in CT, but FWIW I did read where the COL is higher than the midwest.

If youve seen one youve seen em all. I think Door County is every bit as charming as New England, especially the further North you go.

Any thoughts?
Good heavens, why???!!! No, not a smart move in my opinion.

There really isn't a whole lot to do here. The job market isn't all that good either. I'd say if it's not too late, and if you can find another job, then stay where you are, trust me, take it from someone who knows!
I'm with you Bob! I live in CT as well and can't wait til we can put the house up for sale and move to Chicago. I, too, love Chicago and it feels like home to me (I'm a native Floridian). You are spot on. There's not a lot to do in CT. Yes, you have NY and Boston but you need to plan an entire day to go do anything there. I live along the shoreline near New Haven and it takes us an hour and a half one way to go into the city via the train. CT is a beautiful state and I love the seasons, the wineries, and the orchards. But the food - arg. So frustrating to find decent food up here.

Count me in with the stay put! We moved from Chicago to Maine 5 years ago. I absolutely love it here, well, the scenery anyway. It is as beautiful as you imagine. Having said that, driving in Hartford is an absolute nightmare, Boston streets and highways are one giant maze, underground, bridges, streets that go no where. I'd move back to Chicago in a heartbeat, and, if you like the local food at all, you'll be miserable.

Watch the tax rates as they are much higher in CT.
