According to Business Week magazine, Tinley Park, Illinois is the best place in the country to raise a family. Heard it on NPR. They mentioned good schools, low crime rates and moderately affordable housing (or something like that). I haven't read it yet but wanted to spread the good news about our area!

Here's the Business Week article declaring Tinley Park the winner:
America's Best Place to Raise Your Kids - BusinessWeek

And their other blurb stating that Arlington Heights and Schaumburg were the IL runner's up:
Best Places to Raise Your Kids: 2010: Best Place to Raise Your Kids: Illinois - BusinessWeek

I question the employment prospects around Tinley Park. At least AH & Schaumburg have a decent mix of offices and some manufacturing nearby, but I can't say the same for Tinely Park...

Interesting, I thought Mt Prospect was last years winner by BizWeek, then didn't make the top 3 this year? I have no vested interest in any of these cities, just thought it was odd.

They have plenty of employment opportunities, if you're willing to drive an hour+ to work.

Or drive to the Metra station nearest your subdivision (hopefully that's close) and take the train for an hour. But hey, at least that's enough time to down two tall Fosters before getting home to the wife and kids!

Not to take anything from Tinley Park for this great honor but, again, it's a glossy magazine survey, from the same folks that ranked East Garfield Park and Cicero the next "up and coming" areas a few years ago.

Here it is...

America's Next Hot Neighborhoods | BusinessWeek

Chicago

Most Up and Coming Neighborhood: East Garfield Park

East Garfield Park, located on the West Side of Chicago, is seeing revitalization after years of neglect. The improvement is due to its proximity to downtown, historical homes, and access to mass transit.

Runner-up: Cicero

They got the "years of neglect" part right, hehe. Hopefully, Tinley will not befall the "Business Week Curse."

Yeah, especially when people commit hate crimes in the grocery store.
