I have been a lurker for awhile. I am relocating to Chicago from Florida, and went house hunting this weekend. I have a wife and 15 month old. We found some nice places in both Ashbury and Chestnut Ridge. I will be working from home, and travel all around Chicagoland up to Southern Wisconsin and Northern Indiana. Any ideas on how to decide??

Thanks!

In such situations I think it is important to make some lists of potential trade-offs. How important are the school attendance boundaries, ease of commute, relative age / quality of homes. The "winner" for YOU may not be the same as for others, both these areas have some real pluses. Realize too that in relatively stable areas like both of these the odds of making a mistake are pretty slim BUT if you don't do your homework NOW and then decide that maybe you want to try to move to the other area you do stand to lose out on the real estate transaction costs to say nothing of disruption to your life / that of you kids...

I dated a couple of girls who lived in Ashbury. It's a nice, settled in neighborhood. It's also pretty large. They've got a good neighborhood association and amenities too.

Default neighborhoods

Im familiar with ashbury but not the chestnut neighborhood you mentioned. Naperville has a lot of different sections because its so large.

Ashbury is the south side of naperville. The south side tends to be newer than the rest of Naperville, the schools are newer and have all the amenities as far as pools, computers, etc. The nice thing about ashbury is your pretty much locked into Neuqua, they arent' going to change school boundaries on you there like may happen if you go up towards 59 more. Ashbury has a pool and clubhouse and stuff in the neighborhood as well.

I know a lot of people in this area, alot of people in this area are entrepeneurs, work from home offices, etc. The only downside of this area is your far from expressways if you travel frequently.
