Mokena Mart is on 195th. Like I said, I think the close proximity to the expressway might have something to do with crime on those major business/traffic arteries.
But, if you read the police blotter, most of the crime seems to be drunk drivers or a rash of car break-ins.
I ride my bike all over Mokena and Tinley. I also walk my dog with my granddaughter after dark and I don't feel unsafe in the least.
Since I have moved to Mokena 4 years ago, there have been a two heinous murders involving family members: a brother and sister, and more recently a mother and daughter.

I absolutely would feel safe walking around at night around Mokena, Frankfort, New Lenox. Those areas are about as safe as you are going to get these days.

It now boasts the busiest Metra station(80th Avenue) on the RI line, probably because of its huge parking lot. I believe the adjacent mental hospital has now closed.

Tinley has no real issues. The only concern I’d have is that 175th and Harlem to the east of Harlem is right on the Metra tracks and the station is between 80th and Harlem, so it is not super convenient to walk. I would probably consider to the west of Harlem but pass on anything to the east. At least to the west you can walk to the station. It is a very nice station.
