Info/opinions about West Chicago
I'm moving to the Chicago suburbs area from Chapel Hill, NC. I've read a lot of information about places like Glen Ellyn, Woodridge, Wheaton, Naperville, and Lisle (all good) and Aurora (bad). But I haven't seen any information about West Chicago. Does anyone have any information? Thanks!

Info/opinions about West Chicago
West Chicago is mainly Hispanic at this point. Housing near town is affordable but the better neighborhoods are to the far north side. Continuing controversy about radiation in the soil from the old Kerr-McGee plant. An inordinate amount of cancer deaths.

West Chicago is in-between. Its mainly Hispanic (over 50%), some parts are run-down but there are some lovely old neighborhoods too. Basically, anything south of Main Street (spare a few tiny areas) is Hispanic, but there are lots of white folks there too, so its not completely Hispanic. The areas along Washington St are lovely, old Victorians that are immaculately restored. The areas north of there (Oak St, Ingalton, etc) are nice old neighborhoods with oak-lined streets and its pretty quiet. There are some brand new developments up near Rt. 64 (off of Rt. 59) that you might want to look into. How much are you willing to spend?
Oh, I forgot, there are also some great neighborhoods all along Prince Crossing Road and near Wheaton Academy (nationally renowned Christian high school) as well. Oh, and also south of Washington/Geneva St. east of Prince Crossing. The areas NE of Washington (east of Rt. 59) are also pretty quiet and nice too (older homes).

There are some newer developments - I couldn't tell you their names Cornerstone lakes? maybe. That are actually in West chicago, but they have St. Charles schools - district 303. And they are nearer to Wayne, IL than most of West chicago. Corron school is one of the school names.
I would say it is a diverse community, until you get to the developed communities that is. The main town has very reasonable prices, and has a large hispanic community and has been that way for many years.

Check out St. Charles and Geneva - both are nice areas with great downtowns for shopping, eating and so forth. Also Winfield is a small town next to West Chicago which has some nice houses.

Aurora isn't ALL bad. Just certain parts. St. Charles is nice, Geneva also nice. Just depends on how much you want to spend. AND where you need to commute to for your job, are the biggest factors in a move to the Chicagoland area.
