If you look thru "houses for rent" ads in Herald you might find a small house for +/- 1000 a month. They do pop up every now and than. Other than that I can recomend Salem Walk Apts. in Northbrook. Nice two bedroom apts in a safe community, under a thousand and electricity is the only extra bill. I work with a number of landlords there (nothing to do with renting them). Right on I-294 which would take you to O'Hare, or DesPlaines River Rd that would tke you there too. Excellent schools.

Parts of Wheeling are decent, some parts sketchy. If you consider Wheeling, try to stay within Elementary SD 23. All the High Schools in the district are good, but Hersey and Prospect have better reputations and made US News list of best High Schools. Last year, ALL the schools in the district, except Elk Grove, made the US NEws Best HS list. Wheeling HS offers full AP course choice and is pretty diverse. Over 20% Hispanic but also MANY other cultures including Polish, Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, Russian to name a few. Here is a link to District 214:www.d214.org
Not sure how good Leyden, Fenton, Maine West and Taft are. Maine South is outstanding.

I wasn't implying that it was low income because of the hispanic community, I was simply stating my preference, I just wanted more diversity that's all. I am not familiar with any of the suggested ares, I just wanted to let it be known what I didn't want. I appologize if I offended anyone ....not my intention. Thanks again!

Talking about Waukegan as a whole? It's not the best, a few decent areas but the high school is not very desirable.

I would say Des Plaines for the city and Maine West for the high school.
