How long does it take to get to Chicago from Gurnee during rush hour? How long does it take to get to Chicago not during rush hour?

Your time really depends on where you are going in Chicago. Downtown Chicago on the weekend takes me approx 45min but I am not sure during the week b/c I don't travel that way during the week.

That will be a very long commute in rush hour - I would not plan on it being less than 1.5 hours on most days.

The problem isn't the distance (it can be done in 45 mins w/no traffic), its that you pass through several waves of bad congestion. First is the 294 to 94 spur near Deerfield. Then 94 (Edens) will almost always jam up as it approaches the merge with 90/94 (Kennedy). Once you're on the Kennedy it will again get very slow as it approaches the Loop exits downtown.

It can be done and I'm sure lots of people are doing it, but it could be a lifestyle-defining commute if its something you're not ready for.

Try Metra or Pace.
