I'm just partial to Deerfield, had a friend that lived there. I think it's a very pretty village, although all on your list are.

Regarding Evanston, yes... knitgirl was partially correct about it. Evanston is a bastion of liberalism, but in a very vocal/activist type of way. They wear their politics on their sleeves publicly. I'm not knocking Evanston, it's a beautiful town, but I could just never live there because of its politics that I find to be abrasive. To put this in a bit of perspective though, I'm not some looney right-wing bible-thumping Christian conservative. I just prefer the town I live in to be 'quieter' about its political leanings/affiliations. In fact, the town I live in leans heavily left (Western Springs) by a more than 2-1 margin. I just don't prefer to live in a town that is defined by its politics, as Evanston is. Many people do, and that's why they flock to places such as Evanston.

Anyways, hope that helps. Some people love Evanston for being Evanston, and some people know that it is not the town for them. It's personal preference.

I think it's ironic that you say people in Evanston wear their politics on their sleeve when you're doing the same thing on this forum. "1/20/2013 - The End of an Error". Not trying to get into a political discussion, just saying.
