I'm looking for a vocal music teaching position anywhere in Illinois but prefer the Chicago suburbs, im also a non tenure teacher.. are there any suggestions on where to look, or do you think it would be too hard to get that kind of position in todays economy in Illinois. I realize the state isnt in the best budget situation right now, but where are some good sites to look at to get hired, or is there little luck in getting hired in Illinois.

Luck? Really even in the best of times there is very minimal number of school districts that are going to job at a someone that majored in Vocal Music. I mean even if you are also skilled enough to instruct kids in the basics of Orchestra and Marching Band, lead the chorus and be involved in school musicals and such there are few schools that have a large music department. The turnover is pretty small too, it is not like the folks that do land the well paying gigs are the type to retire early...

Good Luck!

Have you thought about going the private route? Not just private schools either, but places that offer private music classes and such. There are loads of them in the suburbs, although I'm not sure if too many offer vocal music lessons... more like piano, guitar, etc. Might be worth looking into though if you can't land a traditional teaching job. Good luck!
