volo is a nice small VERY SMALL town. its really part of the mchenry/fox lake/wauconda conglomerate. I dont know if it even has schools or where the kids would go (probably lakemoor or wauconda schools?) not sure......
its a nice safe area though, no worries there.

I don't know much about the schools however I can tell you that 4 miles away in Wauconda in Liberty Lakes you can find great schools in the Fremont dist. THere is a rumor that Volo is going to get a huge outdoor mall similar to the one in Deer Park.

I like that area. Its very small, as others have mentioned, but decently nice. There is a auto museum in town, as well as your normal chain stores, etc. There is also the Volo Bog Natural Area right there too.

Volo always struck me as a nice town. They have a classic car museum that I love to visit. But it is sorta small and I am not sure what there is to do up there.. best of luck

I think you would be wise in buying in Volo ; your property value is going to increase quickly . Its a 'little town' right now...but it is going to become very desirable to live in given that expansion is moving westward . ALready there are a couple of huge developments in Volo east of Route 12 . I could be wrong, but, i think they currently building a School right now at Route 60 and 120 just east of Route 12 in Volo. Dont know where kids are being bussed right now, but, most likely Fox Lake or McHenry. The area is very nice with Route 60,120 12 running thru it. Definitely a country atmosphere yet with shopping in McHenry only 15 minutes away. A variety of forest preserves and lakes are in close proximity and its one of the nicest areas of Lake County. I think if you got in now, youll be glad you did later on. David.

If you do move to Volo or that area, heres some must do things : Go to Volo Museum which has alot of antiques and classic cars like no others. Go to Volo Bog for a walk and guided tour over a drawbridge . Go for a walk or fish at Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda, Il. Visit the Lake County Museum also at Lakewood . Most of the communities have Music in the Park nights during the summer months. Visit Morraine Hills State Park and go for a nice bike ride on thier paths. Visit McHenry Dam and rent a canoe, row boat, and/or fish. If you like to camp, go to Fish Lake Campground right there in Volo -- a huge C.G. with a lake stocked full of fish. Eat at an outdoor restaurant in Fox Lake on one of many lakes for a beautiful view . Take a ride up to Lake Geneva, Wisc. for a day of strolling, shopping, boat tour, and entertainment.

Look, what? How could you possibly know that?
I actually think the property values of the far-out suburbs are going to stagnate or continue to decline for quite some time, especially those without Metra stations. Gas isn't getting any cheaper, you know.
