Default Question about living place around Blue Island

Hi Guys,

I need your help! I am going to take an internship in Blue Island this summer, 3 month. I am now looking for a sublet or short term apartment. Which area is a better place to live? My biggest concern is the safety issue.

Thanks!

Do you mean "what area is a good place to live?", or do you have some specific areas in mind already? You need to be more specific beyond the safety issue to get any useful help. Certainly you could rent in one of the less rough corners of Blue Island and be reasonably safe. you could also feasibly stay near the city center (BI has good metra service depending on timing). There are also a dozen or so suburbs that would work in addition to the Beverly and Hyde Park neighborhoods on the south side of Chicago. What else is most important to you -- commute time, city living, price, etc?

Hi ajolotl,

that's really helpful! I don't like city life that much. Commute time within 40 minutes works for me, and my budget for rent is about 500-700. I have no knowledge about that area at all.. even Chicago downtown, never been to there. Could you please give me some detailed suggestions? Such as town's name, zip code?

Thanks!!

If you want to avoid urban grunge and not be too far away, I'd look for rentals in Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, (both suburbs) or Beverly (south west corner of city). Might want to check out Mt. Greenwood also. All will be within 10-20 minutes. Beverly and Tinley Park will have very convenient train service if you live in the right spots.

Alsip, Crestwood and Midlothian would probably have something in your budget.
