It is about 25-30 minutes via express train to the Loop.

He said that he could be in his Loop office in 25 minutes. That's a pretty quick door to door commute. You can barely arrange that commute from Lincoln Park.

Just checked Metra. It seems express trains are 30 minutes; other trains pushing 40 minutes.

Accurate reporting of commuting times is one of my bugaboos. I think it has always been one of my issues, but I got even more cognizant of length of commute time when I had a child and had to be in a certain place at a certain time after work.

The #1258 leaves CH at 8:23 and gets to Union Station pretty reliably before the posted 8:49 arrival -- Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Schedule

The driving / travel times to O'Hare are also well within the possible off peak: E Ogden Ave & Middaugh Rd, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514 to Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, IL 60666 - Google Maps

Ditto for Midway: W 55th St & Holmes Ave, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514 to Chicago Midway International Airport, Chicago, IL 60629 - Google Maps

Default Chet

Under your scenario, door to door is a minimum of 26 mins plus walking time. This is assuming you live within walking distance of the train. Walking to your office, depending where it is in the loop will add 5-10 min plus the 5-10 mins you need to walk to the train from home and suddenly this becomes a 36-46 min commute door to door.

25 min commute to the loop from Clarendon Hills does not exist, just a 25 min train ride.

Driving does not include the 5-10 mins you need to get in and out of the garage.

I think train waiting time needs to be factored in too, since most people like to arrive at least five to ten minutes before their train is scheduled to arrive. So that 25 minute train ride can easily be one segment of an hour-long commute.

But I will say that the BNSF Metra has perhaps the best express train schedule of any route. It really makes a lot of those DuPage County towns into good options for those who work in the Loop.

I live in CH:

Wake up at 6:10
Out the door at 6:30
Get to train at 6:35
Train Leaves at 6:44
Arrive at Union Station at about 7:12
Walk to office gets me in at 7:20

50 min. door to door. Quicker then when I lived in Oak Park and took the Green Line in.

Default Green Line from Oak Park

I live in Oak Park and take the green line.

Wake up at 6:50
Out the door at 7:20
Get to train at 7:23 (my walk is 12 mins less)
Train Leaves at 7:25 (give or take 3-4mins)
Arrive at Clark/Lake at about 7:50
Walk to office gets me in at 7:55 (3 mins less than your walk)

35 min. door to door. Quicker than 50 mins.

You must have had to walk pretty far to get on the green line. I am only 2 blocks north of the Oak Park stop. It would be less time if I got on at Ridgeland or Austin.

The Metra from Oak Park is less than fifteen minutes. The schedule has it higher, but it took thirteen minutes the last time I did it. So if you live near Marion and South in Oak Park--and work near the station--you can really have a very short commute.

I fully believe the commute is 50 minutes give or take 5. I just was surprised when the village president said it was 25 minutes. A 25 minute door to door commute is just hard to come by.

My OP green line commute is about 45 minutes. But I don't work near the green line. The train ride on the green line is about 20 minutes.
