Red-Light Cameras: Ald. Ed Burke lets slip their true purpose...
By Gary Washburn
Tribune staff reporter
Published June 22, 2007
Just as a manufacturer hit the market with new devices that warn motorists of approaching red-light enforcement cameras, Ald. Edward Burke (14th) announced Thursday that he will seek to ban the new technology.
And Burke threw off any pretense that the cameras' primary purpose is to reduce the number of traffic accidents at dangerous spots where motorists run reds.

I don't know if that move will hold up in court. Although radar detectors are illegal in VA, knowing where the cameras are does not allow someone to evade a red light. So Ald. Burke's proposal (however it is motivated) may not be enforceable.

Haha! Heaven forbid the cameras or any other device work as intended and cut off their precious revenue stream, aren't the aldermen due for a raise sometime soon?
Figures.

LOL. my mom contributed to that 19.8 million!!
Anyway, doesn't the device pretty much do the same thing as the warning signs. If I have a device that warns me the camera is around, I'm going to slow down and not try to beat the yellow light. Isn't that a good thing?

Even if it does get passed (which I doubt it will) and does stand up to court scrutiny, the CPD's response is gonna be, "yeah right, you expect us to enforce this?"
