I'm looking for a fixer upper in Chicago, and will be in need of a good home remodeling company. I've seen advertisements for Galaxie home remodelers, as well as other well known companies, but would like some input. Hopefully this thread can help others looking to do some home updating.

I've used 123 Remodeling and had a really good experience with them. They have youtube videos and pics of their work on their website.

I don't know anyone yet (my dad has always been my personal remodeling company) but I have hired outside help for the first time in my life and they will be starting on my house next week. I hired a painting company to paint all of the trim (baseboards, door casings and windows) in my house. I have A LOT of them and would never be able to get it all done in any sort of timely fashion myself. I hired Chicago Painters. I will let you know how it goes... if they can do this well, I am positive they could handle any regular wall or exterior painting you may need done because this job is going to be a total pain the the a**.

Oh wait... I actually do know a really great guy for hardwood floors. He seriously is the best and does things at extremely reasonable prices. So I guess I lied, I've hired outside help one time, and it was him. He also did my sister's house and my aunt's house so far. Here's a link to his info on yelp:

We hired a remodeler recommended by an architect and he used cheap illegal immigrant Polish labor. Did our whole 3 story house - tear down, new wiring, top notch central HVAC, new drywall, hardwood floors, and painting for around $200,000 I think...
