Any punk rock/ alternative dive type bars in chicago? (Eureka: home, neighborhood)

So ive been thinkin chicago is the place for me, but im really curious about what kinda fun places i could possibly frequent and make friends at. Im a big fan of punk rock and alternative music and i tend to meet alot of people through our love of music. So are there any fun places i could dive into?

I would go with (from my personal experience) (these bars are not all pure punk either-they have plenty of hard rock,metal,goth,etc. as well) :

I presume by "alternative dive bars" you mean the kind of place that conspicuously looks like a corner bar that hasn't been redecorated since the 1970s and happens to have a small stage for local and touring indie acts and the clientele wear tight jeans and ironic vintage T-shirts while nursing cans of PBR. In that case you want Empty Bottle, The Hideout, Gallery Cabaret, Subterranean, Elbo Room, and The Double Door. Other places that are a bit more up-market but generally cater to the same crowd and showcase the same type of indie bands are Martyr's, Beat Kitchen, Schuba's, and Kinetic Playground.

definitely check out the Mutiny, that will be your cup of tea- they pay the bands in beer.

Gingerman is a great bar too and right next to Metro which is one of the best venues in the city to see a show in my opinion

Ronny's is pretty much just punk bands., and gives new meaning to the word dive. It's also a good place to find out about underground shows. MPshows does the booking for a lot of the punk acts in town.

Very true. Great bands, but a beyond awful space.
