Avec is casual?

You and I clearly have different standards of "casual," which certainly doesn't help in the context of this conversation.

If you don't have to wear a jacket, it's casual by my definition. I've seen ball caps in Avec, by the way.

Whereas my idea of "casual" is a place where parents can take kids of all ages and expect that they'll eat the food (and have it still be palatable for the parents), as well as expect other families with children there -- Chili's, or Leona's or Ann Sather to use local examples. Avec may not require a jacket, but it's still a destination restaurant that's at least as much culinary art as a place to eat, thus transcending the "casual" label as I use it. Anyone who wears a hat in avec is a tool. So is anyone who complains about a hat worn in Leona's.

And if you don't care if you look like a cranky old nutter shaking his fist at those darned kids and their newfangled rock & roll, go ahead and rail against antiquated customs that are long gone.

I don't care. Besides, most whose opinion I value agree with me and one needn't worry about the opinions of those one doesn't value.

And on the flipside, I don't care if I offend the sensibilities of those who mistake being rigid, stuffy prigs with having manners. Thank goodness for those parents who taught their kids the difference along with teaching them the value of adaptability.

Keep Chicago green-minded and progressive; get rid of Christians and people with kids; they are destroying the environment!
OY,
time for the fun to end.

Drover, I think you speak of two different things here. One must be a "Stuffy pig" to have manners OR one has no manners? Can one teach adoptability AND manners? Can I be an unstuffed pig and teach my son to open doors, stand for the anthem and NOT wear a baseball cap while in a restaurant? If lyou were with mom-or mil at Olive Garden, would you wear your hat for dinner? And WHY?

ah well, Live and let live.
America. Good for us to have our differences

IrishTom and I are somewhat liberal, actually. And Drover and Avengerfire lean conservative. Now run off to the under 21 forum please!
