Oak Street beach. It's between Elm and Oak Street, just east of Lake Shore Drive.

Hahaha!! That picture must be photoshopped because I don't think those trees are indigenous to Chicago. In fact I don't think they would survive thru january.

Nope - they're real. They're brought in in the spring and are dug up and placed in storage in the fall. Palm trees have small root balls that are easily transplanted. I believe the bar concession at the beach started doing it a few years ago.

Wow, that is so sad and cheezy. It leaves the impression that we have to imitate sunbelt beaches because ours are inferior. The natural sand beaches that ring the great lakes are beautiful and have their own scenic foilage unique to the region.

Just another case of trying to market Chicago to the trendys and upscalers who have a little extra disposable income and are suckers for faux fashion.

Everyone knows that Chicago has a warm, tropical climate all year round. Right?

It's more about one bar concession trying to go with a theme than anything related to marketing Chicago. You may be reading a little too much into it.

It also serves as a sarcastic joke. Don't you think it's hilarious that a Chicago beach has palm trees? I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with upscale residents desiring palm trees in the Midwest.

Yeah, I'm going a little over the top on the subject, but I have the soul of a preservationist these days because I see so much of new Chicago becoming a copy of other places. Who's the new Burnham or Montgomery Ward these days??? Does anyone have a plan or a vision? Or are we just gonna become quasi-Manhatten, Euroish, Friscoey, and now Miami Beachy?

Ugggghhhh!!!!!!
