Still trying to figure out why having yuppies move into your neighborhood is a bad thing? I can think of a lot worse type of people that I wouldn't want to live next to.

Yeah the more I think of it, higher land values and increases in property values, respectable people and renovated apartments and warehouse revitalization is just a terrible thing.

What does any of that matter when you can't afford to live there and are just forced to move to another place that's the same?

Oh yeah I forgot about the big guy in the big black suit with the baseball bat knocking on your door telling you to move. So then let's just all live in the hood and be happy.

Nobody forces you to do anything.

Trite. And has nothing to do with what one can and can't afford; the economic and social forces which affect one not taking the form of big guy with a bat.

Chicago used to be the best bargain/affordable large city in the U.S. and perhaps the world. Now many parts are way overpriced even in this "recession."

"Overpriced" according to who? I find that people in these conversations call anything they can't personally afford "overpriced".

Well said.
It's like Obama calling people who make over $250k 'rich'. Well, not compared to someone making $500k. Granted, only something like 3% of the population is 'rich', these folks pay something like 52% of all taxes.

I've heard friends say they don't like to go north of Irving, but they're normally just talking about the small sliver between the lake and Clark and Irving to Foster. Even then it's more Montrose to just north of Lawrence that has some issues. Also as stated some areas of Albany Park.

That's a pretty small section of the north side of the city to the north of Irving. You have some of the nicest neighborhoods in the city up in those northern sections. That's like saying "don't ever live anywhere on the west or south side".
