The best hot dog in the entire Chicagoland area can be found at Casciani's in Hodgkins. They make everything right, including the hot dogs. They used to cater to the Chicago Bears.

I have to give the nod to Superdawg as well. Kitschy but it really is a darn good dog. Definitely worth the drive. I have to check out Casciani's though, hadn't heard of that one before.

Other places to recommend that I didn't see on the list:
1) jimmie's on Pulaski and grand avenue--another classic vienna dog--much like Gene's and Judes. Heartburn inducing. Greasy as heck.
2) Wiener's circle (Lincoln Park): it's become almost a joke now with the employees yelling at you and beating up the drunks, but the dogs are still darn good
3) The kosher dogs at comiskey with the grilled onions are ridiculously good for ballpark food.

thanks for the replies!

Fat Johnies 73rd and Westren. To bad to many of u are to scared to even think about getting out of your cars in this neighborhood. I've had superdawg and it's definately better. Once again the southside is completed ignored by everyone.

I agree with NSH. Jeff's Hot Dogs on Cicero, one block south of Irving. Just exactly the way a great Chicago style hot dog should be made! Those dogs are a treat for the taste buds and the aroma dusts out the nose. Their fries are very good too.
Who said, da suburbs can actually make Chicago style hot dogs?
I make it point to eat hot dogs ONLY within city limits. If in a burb, I'd rather let my gut growl a bit and drive until I'm in the city.

Dogs on Clark, huge and char-broiled.
Unless Superdawg changed ownership, they pale by comparison.

It's no wonder the Bears are such a bunch of blubber butts!

What no one mentions gene and jude's hotdogs in river grove on river road? Those are good dawgs. they have a "no catsup" policy there.

Here in the burbs we have portillo's which are pretty darn good too.

I like Jim's "Maxwell Street" (now in the shadow of the UIC monstrosity, but truly one of the originals) mostly for Polishes, but their dogs are good to.

Budacki's on Damen and Lawrence does me right. Great 'pommes frites'

Ditto to Hot Dougs for the fancy stuff.
