My thoughts were try commuting but have a car in case you miss the train or have a slow morning.

My advice is to get a smartphone or iPad and use your commuting time on the train to surf the web (maybe even post on city-data.)

Berwyn is not for someone who is looking for nightlife. Yes it is very urban, but mostly families.
Nope, other than FitzGerald's, Friendly Tap, Olive or Twist, the Fill-Up Station, Cigars and Stripes, the James Joyce, Lalo's, La Espanola, Harlem Ave. Lounge, and Garv's Inn, no nightlife whatsoever in Berwyn. Very boring and family focused, I agree!

You also forgot Fonzie's, 39Ten Lounge, Cabin Fever, Jungle Joe's (newest incarnation of Copperfield's), and margaritas and salsa dancing at Guadalajara's. Or going to Avenue Ale House or Kinderhook Tap on Oak Park ave.

Berwyn's actually got more nightlife than fabulous Oak Park (Forest Park doesn't count).

Yup, and to go slightly outside the borders, there's Mollie's and Calvetti's in Riverside in walking distance from S.W. Berwyn, Irish Times in Brookfield, all the bars on Madison St., and all the bars in Oak Park within 5-10 minutes.

It's amazing to me, that someone from Oswego will say, without even an itty bitty teeny smidgen of irony, that dining and entertainment is right next door in downtown Naperville (as in a 20 minute car ride). But you're talking about Berwyn, things outside the immediate border shouldn't be counted as options, so you should move one block west into Forest Park if you're single so you can enjoy them. Go figure.

I am not from Oswego nor Naperville. I do like Berwyn and do have friends from the area and we do hang out there. For someone moving to Chicago and wanting to live the single life in the city who is from a smaller town, I would not recommend Berwyn. This is not a knock on Berwyn. I would not recommend most suburbs for the OP.

If you are going to take Metra to West Chicago forget Oak Park. You might as well live in a place like West Loop or Greektown and be closer to the real action that is in Chicago. Young, single, and making 66k a year? Oak Park is not for you.

I do have agree Oak Park is kind of boring and I live in Forest Park and do not even go to the bars as they are grimmy. But I am also sick of people acting like if person does not live in the hot areas in the city there life will be over. Everytime I go into the city I have this expectation like it going to be "it" and everytime I go it is the same thing. White people are bars drinking or eating yuppie food. If this the excitement, please!

The bars just happen to be nicer on the north side. What is yuppie food?
