Hi I am a new grad nurse, I am currently living in the Northern Suburbs and I am predominantly looking to commute to the city via the metra for Work. I am primarily interested in Cook County, Rush Memorial, Northwestern, and Evanston Hospitals. I am wondering if there are any hospitals I should be looking at in addition to this. Also if anyone has any additional advice for a new grad seeking a job just out of school. Does it make a difference if I have taken my NCLEX test and have the IL license or not as far as the response I will get from Hospitals? What types of jobs are in the most demand. What kind of salary can I expect in Chicago as a New grad? Which hospitals have the best New grad programs and hospitals that hire new grads? Any advice from current or past employeess of any of these hospitals would be especially helpful.

I graduated from nursing school in May 2009. It took me almost a year to find a job. I couldn't find a job in a hospital so I had to look into LTC (long term care aka nursing home). I would apply to any and every hospital. I would also look into LTC or clinics. I would say that new nursing grads can expect to make around 50K. Look into the hospitals in the burbs first. It seems that most of the people I graduated with eventually found positions in the suburbs.
