Are bully breeds, specifically staffies and pitbulls, common near the city? How does the city in general feel about them?
There is a Bully Breed rescue that operates in Chicago.

Chicagoland Bully Breed Rescue

I got my dog from them, its a "Bull Whip", a Pit-Whippet mix, kinda looks like the RCA dog.

I'm not making a value judgement of you; that's just the way it is.
Bunch of middle class have em' too trying to give the breed a better name.

Atleast I've seen a couple in some upper hoods when I've gone.

I'm trying to be a responsible dog owner who doesn't have to constantly worry about what city I enter with my dog. Just because someone owns a pitbull, doesn't mean they breed and fight them as a hobby.

Thank you everyone, for your input. The general view on pitbulls and other bully type dogs is pretty much the same here, so that's not a shocker. My dog is well-trained and I am not low class. Nobody would see me and assume I owned a pitbull.

Silly, you don't have a "pit bull" you have an "American Bull Terrier".

I don't know if that will fly. I had a friend who refuses to call his dog a pitbull, I say "yeah whatever, it's a pit, but if if makes you happy I'll call it a poodle."

I hope the OP didn't move to Maywood:

"Seven people were arrested in a Maywood basement last week at the scene of a dogfight in progress, the Cook County sheriff's office said."

What in God's name does this have to do with the OP? Why can't you just start your own Crime Blotter thread already?

You'll have a hard time finding something near downtown... Probably more so the weight restriction than getting your dog in. Plus you'd probably have some snooty neighbor in the building complain about you. I love bully breeds, but you might have to expand your search. I have a (will be) 80-90 pound dog and that was my biggest issue finding a place was getting a place to take large dogs. It's only 6 months and over 50 pounds already so there goes most buildings around downtown even for just a puppy. I was actually thinking about a blue pitt as my next dog. I don't think you'll be fond of the dog parks near downtown either, full of little yappers with owners that would probably **** their pants if you brought a pittbull in there.

That maywood story took place across the street from us. I saw one of those dogs all the time.
