Comparing to Brooklyn, it seems the hipster crowd in Chicago is very young and not very diverse. In Williamsburg, yes there are some ridiculous ones with giant glasses, but for the most part, there's a wide range so it's hard to pick what is hipster and what isn't. In Chicago, it seems you're an extreme hipster or you're not. In Brooklyn, I've seen hipsters into their mid 30's. In Chicago, I've never seen one that looks to be over the age of 25. Am I wrong?
Curious, what is your definition of hated?

By the way my co-worker is a drummer in an indie band, wears thick black glasses, lives in Ukrainian Village, and...is 32 and has a kid.

I've never seen a hipster drummer play double kicks (well not since Louie Bellson but he was a whole different breed of hipster).

Likewise I've never seen a hipster guitarist play a solo like Django but he was a hipster before it was cool in the 50s.

good friends of mine, I don't think they take the hipster thing all that seriously, it's more to show they have their own take:

lePercolateur {le Percolateur} Chicago's hipster gypsy jazz manouche gipsy swing
