Gold Coast elitism is over-stated. Most "average Joes" do not mingle with the wealthy.

You judge a city and it's people in just week? Get out to the neighborhoods before you make a judgement. You live in a small sliver of the city.

Since I'm not from Chicago I thought the advice was legit, but in reality all my friends from Chicago and slot of posters on this forum are just whiney babies.

Examples:

That area is dead at night
You might have to transfer trains (oh boy not that!)
It's a bad neighborhood (did you see a black person there once or something?)
The nearest grocery store is 6 blocks away! (...I'm 23 and not fat)

The best one "your neighbors may not be friendly"

\end rant

But in all honestly, does anyone feel like people from each neighborhood are elitist to their hood?
I think some of this also might be that people tend to be a little more blunt in the Midwest than down south. Are people ANGRY complaining, or are they just stating their opinions?

I'm guessing it's just a culture change, and people probably aren't any more upset about the areas, they're just being more open and blunt with their opionions. It's normally something harmless you'll just get use to.

Anyways, OP, I think I have seen you posting in South Florida threads a while ago. Why did you decide to leave FL for Chicago if you don't mind me asking?

Welcome to Chicago. People here do complain a lot, although I haven't really experienced the complaints about different neighborhoods.

Mainly people in Chicago love to complain about the weather. I am convinced that the weather in Chicago isn't as bad as the national stereotype, we just have 9+ million people in the metro area that continuously complain about it. However, the impression about winters here is that it's like living in the Arctic or something.

I grew up in Nebraska and I'm pretty sure the winters were just as bad or even worse than they are here in Chicago.

Just because there are some places with harsher winter weather than Chicago doesn't mean Chicago's weather isn't tough.

Siberia is colder than Ontario. Therefore, Canada must not be cold.

After moving back to the South, I no longer think Chicagoans complain much about the weather. Let it drop below 32 south of the Mason-Dixon and you'll hear some real complainin'.

Or, god forbid it snows. Once the thrill wears off (which takes 5 minutes) it's an endless stream of weather complaints until a week later when it's warm again.

Yeah, the temp goes down to 50 in Phoenix and everyone is running around in ski jackets and uggs. My wife and I call that "shorts weather"

If you had ask me, I would have replied, "your neighborhood has the worst weather in winter."
