Obviously you have no idea where Greektown is.

He also thinks being a block from Damen is being at Ashland.

To me the West Loop is Lasalle and Wells streets between Van Buren and Lake.

Yes it is. That is the western portion of the Loop. Which is the real West Loop.

Then there is West Loop Gate that people are now calling West Loop. That neighborhood does not go west past 90/94.

What is your definition of South Loop? Should it really be called South Loop? Shouldn't it be called the Levee?

I wonder how many people besides you and me know what you're referring to.

I usually call my neighborhood "14th and Michigan". Or the Near South Side which is the city's community area name for it. I do call it South Loop sometimes though. But most of the time when someone asks what neighborhood I live in I say "14th and Michigan".

If it hadn't been for the real estate bust the South Loop would be stretching down to 39th St. to meet up with "North Hyde Park".

To be fair to the OP, the merchants and the real estate agents freely refer to the area west of the 94 as the West Loop. I believe there are even "West Loop" street banners on Madison in the stretch between the freeway and Ashland, so unless you take the time to do the research, it is easy to take those labels at face value.
Just sayin'.
And really, we could pick nits all day to show how much smarter and Chicago savy we are, but maybe someone could take a stab at helping the OP with his question, which, once you get past the details of what to call the neighborhood, seems like a reasonable query.

If I ran Chicago those people would be caned.

Whomever the new mayor is, he/she would be doing everyone a favor by once again clearly defining the neighborhood boundaries like was done in the 1970's. The the boundaries of neighborhoods need to be strictly defined and enforced.

We are not nitpicking. Irishtom and I were born and raised in Chicago. Whoever would believe a real estate agent's propaganda map over clearly knowledgeable natives is a fool.

To be really fair to the OP, I would tell him to search the forum, because his topic has been covered already.

According to the city of Chicago's official website, West Loop extends to Ashland. Who are you going to believe, the gubument or some random person on a blog? Not to mention that virtually every business that contains the words west loop extends beyond Halsted.
