Believe me no one is leaving Hyde Park or Kenwood. I wish they would -- maybe I could afford to upgrade. Real estate is still outrageously expensive around here, didn't even notice that much of an adjustment from the real estate peak in spite of the average chicago numbers.

I wouldn't have expected major losses in Hyde Park or Kenwood...lakefront areas that remain stable...the subprime lending on the west and south side added to the large population losses

Oh, I am so heading over to Skyscraper Forum.

It's like watching a bunch of reclusive agoraphobes being tossed into space. This is a special event you only get to see once every ten years.

No, the people of Chicago failed. I know a few people that worked on the census and they did EVERYTHING they could to get people counted. I was told they had up to 8 attempts to get a count on a household. Many people did not want to be bothered to contact the census to arrange a time to be interviewed or they did not want to answer questions at all.

I am sure there were some. However, I am sure there were plenty of illegal aliens and their supporters telling the illegal aliens not to answer as well. Don't forget about the democratic party voting people in the ghettos that don't like the government of any agency or level coming to their doors.

With that aside, I guarantee the areas with high levels of Republicans returned their forms and answered their doors at a far higher rate than the rest of the city.

Wow,the CONSERVATIVE town of WHEATON was #4 in the ENTIRE COUNTRY in mailing back their census forms.

To be honest, it's more or less a good thing.

The people Chicago lost were not, by and large, the valuable citizens who pay taxes and have jobs.

In other news, welfare claims and crime should be seeing great drops

Last year I thought of applying for one of those Census enumerator jobs, but decided against it as I'm not too keen on getting doors slammed in my face. The extra cash would've been nice, but I decided I didn't need it that badly.

I've heard someone else say that the drop in homicides is a result of the displacement of unsavory characters.
