It isn't going to happen. The cost of piping it that far is cost prohibitive, there are plenty of other options that are significantly cheaper (but even those are probably too expensive). The other major issue is that the Great Lakes are international waters shared with Canada - the amount of water that can be taken is dictated by international treaty, as well as by a few Supreme Court decisions. Taking the water would mean overturning the Supreme Court decisions and breaking an international treaty.

That is not a pyramid on top, it is a diamond shape.

The building is called the Smurfit-Stone building.

Um no. The CME is rumored to attempt to BUY the NYSE.

Link? Proof? Rumor? So what. It did not happen.

Sure you are. You don't even have your facts straight.

Yeah, well if a North American union is created like some people want, all of that goes out the window.

But there also have been losses. Theres a company called Smurffit-Stone or somethings like that headquartered in that pyramid topped building next to the Prudential building that relocated to Atlanta, There have been at least one major bank to relocate to Charlotte.

But there has also been talk of the CME also moving to New York. The Merc though about moving to Houston in the 80s. Chicago is up against competition, and the amazing things that have given Chicago so much self-confidence has leveled out. (Think getting out of the run for the olympics in the first run, the Spire being a hole in the ground, south loop high rises sitting half-empty, and Oprah, Chicagos big celebrity leaving).

I'm not hating on Chicago, just that city popularity goes in cycles.
So... Chicago lost Smurfit Stone... but picked up Boeing, the New York Mercantile Exchange... and expanded UA last decade. I'll take that.

Ummm...yeah. You may want to add a few layers of tinfoil to your hat, I think the crazy waves are still getting through. I'm more concerned that a giant Unicorn will come and drink the Great Lakes.

Yeah, well, if you would have told someone in 1950 that an agreement like NAFTA would be reached in the 1990's, you would have given a lobotomy.

The joke is always on people like you when world changing events happen.

Former Illinois resident here, now living and working in a sun belt state. My employer is a large telecommunications company just desperate to get employees to relocate to their Chicago, I've been offered transfer and turned it down in spite of the higher pay. Three reasons mostly: 1) higher taxation 2) I'd have to give up my freedoms, specifically my guns 3) The out of control corruption there. That said, I love Illinois, and I love the people there. I miss all my friends. I really hope Illinoisans can get their state back on track.
