Default post-grad moving to chicago needs advice

Hello all!

Would you please make recommendations for neighborhoods to consider renting in Chicago? Here is some info...

1) moving to Chicago this summer to begin a job in the financial district
2) a young 20 something female who would like to feel safe
3) will be using public transportation to get to work and would prefer not to have to transfer lines
4) would like to be around other 20 and 30 somethings but not necessarily into the bar scene
5) considering taking a course at University of Chicago

Then we'll need to know where downtown you'll be working, as in a nearby intersection. The financial district is big enough that depending on where exactly you are, which line you want could make a difference between a transfer, a long walk, etc.

Look close to a Brown Line stop between the Armitage and Rockwell stations.

I work in the financial district downtown in the Loop right on Lasalle/Quincy. It's right next to the brown line. I'm not huge on bars but I still find the Lincoln Park/Lakeview areas perfect for anyone our age. It's a little more expensive to live here, but everything is in walking distance. I live walking distance from a brown line stop and it's been working out fine for me so far. These neighborhoods are about as safe as a city neighborhood could get. Only downside is that they are more expensive to live in.

Depends on what you like in a neighborhood but I'd recommend Ravenswood, North Center and Lincoln Square. We have a two bedroom in Ravenswood for $1080. It's a very safe neighborhood and we're right by the Montrose brown line, which means it's a straight shot to the loop. You could easily find something in your price range here.

Those neighborhoods are quieter and more full of young families. Not really a good area to socialize and meet other young professionals. They don't have that trendy vibe that lincoln park, lakeview, bucktown, etc have.
