I've seen simular post like this.. but I want to be in the city. I'm 28 years old and am moving to enjoy the city life. It was up between NYC or Chicago, and after 6 months of reading up and traveling to both, I chose Chicago.. I know they are both expensive, but you seem to get WAY more for your money in Chi. The apartments i've seen are atleast double if not more in size then NYC for the same price. I live in KC right now.. Any suggestions on exact locations that will suite me? I want to be able to walk out my apartment, and be in the center of it all. Walk to bars, theatres, resturants, you get the idea.. Any help would be appreciated, since I will only be there for the weekend I dont want to waste any time. Thanks in advance,
Paul

Price range? Size of apartment? Do you need to be close to a CTA train line?

The loop, Bucktown, lakeview, lincoln park are the usual suspects. Note broadway style plays are generally found only downtown.

You mean the Loop in the original sense bordered by the train tracks?

Or more the broader downtown area?

In the later, for sure.

The former will be a little tougher to find a place, but yes.

Here is a place you can check out:

Great convertible space! Heart of it all, UTIL INCL! Great amenities!

Im not really sure. Sorry like I said I've only been once and just really enjoyed my time there. Which area would be best for being in the city surrounded by all the buildings? Also what is a convertible apartment?

If tall buildings and really crowed areas are what you want downtown Chicago(the loop) is what you are after. The only problem with downtown is that in parts of it dies down early. Downtown Chicago is Office workers/tourist/residential and in that order.

If a more neighborhood feel is what you are after then lake view, Lincoln park, buck town and a half dozen of other places can do. The nightlife in these areas tends to go on latter but theses areas are less Big city tall sky scraper.

You basically want to be between North Ave, the lake, 90/94, and Roosevelt.

You can stretch it down south to 18th though, but if you do, you need to stay east of the river instead of 90/94.

Check out a place like this too:

I'm fairly new to Chicago, but it sounds like you might like Wicker Park. It has everything that you listed. I lived there for six months when I first moved here and you really are in the middle of great restaurants (trust me, I gained 10 lbs!), bars, markets...everything. Plus the Damen Blue Line is right there. Might be worth looking into. We ended up moving to a quieter neighborhood, but I sometimes miss those late night runs to the falafel spot around the corner...or the early morning coffee from the bakery next door. Ahhh...

If you want to be in the city by all the buildings, near the train, by bars and restaurants, then what about River North?
