Hi I live in chicago Il, and i really can use some help on renters rights. I rent a unit and the bilding is for sale and the realiter puts a lockbox on the property? We dont get notifed for showing and people just walk in to are home. just today someone came in while i was a sleep. i have a dog and 2 kids. i need to know if its ok for them to put a lockbox on the property? it is a 2 flat that we rent and were not moving as of yet? what do i do?

You shauld have 48 hrs notice for all showings.

ok but i dont get that. i get maybe a hr notes if any. and then people just walk in. like today i was sleeping and was woken up with a strang man in my bedroom. there has to be some kind of law about having a lock box on a property when its occupied.

We have a clause in our lease that says we have to be given 24 hours notice for showings if the property is on the market. Have you checked if there is anything in your lease about this? I would at least contact the listing agent and make them aware that you are paying tenants and would like some notice.
