My wife is from Australia and her family is coming to visit and meet our new baby (due next week) in late March and will be staying for a month. She and I went on a Chicago Architecture Foundation river tour last summer and absolutely loved it! We are hoping to be able to do something like that with my wife's parents, but CAF does not start their river tours up that soon.

Does anyone know of any other Architecture tours or other tours that may be worth doing with some Australians on their first visit to Chicago? I want to give them the opportunity to see as much of this city and learn as much about the city as they can, so a tour that maybe mixes in some history would be really cool. We love the idea of the river boat tours, but a bus would be acceptable as well.

Thanks for any tips anyone can give. We are looking for tours operating from about March 20th - April 16th.

I've done the Wendella tours three times now, and it's outstanding every time.

Here's a
video of the Lakeshore East area, shot from one of the Chicago Architectura Foundation river cruises. Check out the CAF tours for sure.

If the weather is nice, and you feel like doing a little walking, the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in Oak Park is the largest collection in the world. The city trolley tours might be operational too. I can't imagine the trip would be complete without a meal in Chinatown.

As an saide, the Chicago Merchandise Mart is very intereseting. The few time I went there I needed a pass from the company where I worked.
