There was this awesome Thai restaurant in the 90s on State Street between Harrison and Roosevelt, close to the old movie theater. I forgot the name but it was by far the best Thai restaurant i've ever eaten at. I remember them having distinct red, rice noodles. Does anyone remember where they moved or if they're even in business?
Thanks

I have yet taste the 'real thing' in ChicagoLand area because the cooks would modify the taste to the 'popular' American taste (even though the ingredients used may mostly be the same). Rosedad is close to authentic Thai taste (a few dishes equally taste equally like authentic Thai).
Your assumption that 'Real Thing' means better, then that is your definition. My definition of 'Real thing' means distinctive taste; not necessary better.
Now, I'm not saying that the Thai food here in Chicago (or even America) are not good; which many are (in fact, a few are even better than Thailand), they just taste differently from Thailand for sure.
Being married to a Thai gal for over 8 years and visiting Thailand twice yearly (each visit 1-2mths per stay) for the last 12 years , I could definitely tell the difference.
Since this post has been posted a few years back, Rosedad has now changed its cooks; thus, the quality of the food has diminished greatly.

You would be supposed to find out that there are a few restaurants in Chicago, New York, LA who could cook equally or better than in Thailand. It's all depends on the chefs who are preparing the dishes. The ingredients are pretty much the same everywhere in the world.

It is not really a sit down restaurant, but one place I like is Me Dee Cafe at 4805 N. Damen. They deliver pretty late too for a Thai place.
