If I were to join a running club, this would be the club for me

I investigated a lot of gyms and the Y was the only in my price range. Only $60/mn for a family, and about 35-40 for a single. When I tried Xsport, it was about $60/mn individual, with a joining fee. Look out for specials where they waive joining fees

Some park district field houses have equiment, although limited, and it is way cheaper. Also they will be free from Jan 2-16. You can try a few of them out and see if you like it.

Cardinal Fitness is pretty cheap, but there's only a few city locations (more in the 'burbs). Looks like there's a West Loop location, though. I think its $25 a month or so for an individual.

I pay $110 a year for Bally's. There's one location in the Loop. No towel service or anything fancy, but to use weights and cardio equipment, it's fine and as cheap as it gets.

Any recommendations in the Lakeview/LP area? I've read that LPAC is really expensive. Any idea what that means?

Default lakeview

I can tell you that Fitness Formula clubs in Lakeview are just great. Both the one on Halsted 1 block north of Belmont and the club on Pine Grove 1 block north of Addison (a block off Lake Shore Dr). They have towel service and membership plans vary alot depending upon time of day, etc. (they have a matinee rate for those who can workout before 4pm on weekdays that's cheaper). Bottom line, it's around 80 a month depending upon plan you choose.

The Sweatshop in the 3200 block of Broadway (just north of
Belmont) is a good, cheaper alternative and they have a website. They have towels but it isn't nearly as fancy or new as Fitness Formula.

There is also Quads on Broadway about 2 blocks north of Addison. It has a history of being for serious bodybuilders but really anybody can go. Much cheaper than Fitness Formula but not as nice.

And of course, the mega Bally at Clark and Diversey on the upper floors of the Century building (building where movie theatres are located). They have so many plans they try to sell you. I can't begin to gander at their pricing.

p.s. LPAC quoted me something like 110.00 per month at their new Broadway location(directly across the street from Sweatshop). And, I didn't like it as well as the lesser priced Fitness Formula clubs within blocks.

Good luck...
