I would like to become a real estate broker in Chicago. I've been on a couple websites and there are dozens of schools that offer the courses. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best school (in terms of value for the course) in Illinois? Should I be looking at a community college, a program through a brokerage or a private institution? It seems that many school are on hiatus given the change in legislature. Im very interested in a timely program that is flexible in schedule and doesn't cost and arm and a leg. Im looking to get started right away.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The exams to become a broker in Illinois are really not that difficult. I personally found it easiest to do a web based program. I took my classes through Career Web School. They were nothing special, but I was able to get through everything quickly (in about a month) and they prepared me well enough to pass both tests the first time I took them.

I think what school you choose has a lot to do with your personal learning style. I've always been a good test taker so I mostly just wanted to get through the classes as quickly as I could so I could go take the test already. My mom, on the other hand, liked the classroom based programs a lot better. So, I think you should choose whatever works for you.

Ultimately, the tests aren't that tough and I don't think you'll get a huge advantage from one program over another. Just make sure they're accredited (State of Illinois | Department of Financial and Professional Regulation) and take the type of program that works best for you. I am pretty sure I ended up going with Career Web School because they were the cheapest...

Web based training offers the most flexibility. Actual classes will require you to conform to a schedule.

Like the previous poster, I am a good test taker and had a strong financial background. I was not challenged by the classes I took at Harper, a community college.

Having said this, as predicted by the class instructor on day one, an overwhelming number of people in my class did not finish the class.

It is like that at any community college in almost every type of class.
