Hello there!

My best friend just got into Roosevelt University to grad school, and I've decided to relocate to Chicago with her this summer.

We're trying to build a list of good neighborhoods to target in our apartment search. Obviously we want something that's a reasonable commute to Roosevelt. I'm an actor, so I'll probably be running all over the place auditioning, making easy access to public transit essential.

I've visited Chicago many times, and I know that the Red Line runs 24 hours. It'd be nice to live near a stop. I'm not as familiar with the bus system, but I'm open to neighborhoods with good bus options as well.

Can we find a 2 bedroom in a safe area for under $1000, or am I just dreaming? Should we be more open to neighborhoods along the Brown Line? We have some friends that live in Roscoe Village and just love it. I'm just concerned about being forced to take cabs home if we stay out after the trains stop running.

Thanks in advance for the input!

Yes, you should be able to find a 2 BD in a good neighborhood for $1000. Will be easier to find a 1 BD though.

Any suggestions on what neighborhoods to look at?

Lakeview, Edgewater, Lincoln Square all of which should have good access to CTA train lines. A 2BD may be harder to find though in that price range.

The Western bus runs 24 hours and the Belmont bus (east of Central) runs pretty darn close to 24 hours.
