Simple question: there's this Mexican restaurant in Milwaukee that my girlfriend and I adore (Conejito's), but we've been unable to find anything that even comes close here in Chicago.

Their food is very simple and straightforward. Soft tortilla tacos with steak meat, lettuce, and tomatoes; refried beans; chicken enchiladas. Stuff of that nature. It's also never dripping in grease, like much of the Mexican food we've come across down here.

Anyone know of a great, authentic-ish Mexican place in the Lakeview area with simple, non-greasy food?

(Bonus points if they have awesome margaritas!)

Not Lakeview, but Taco Burrito Place on Fullerton and Pulaski is my favorite Mexican American food place. It's across from the CVS there.

Not sure how close to Lakeview you are looking for, Lakeview seems to be over run with greasy places, but there are loads of great places in nearby neighborhoods. Los Nopales is excellent, and probably along the lines of what you're looking for. Some other places worth checking out are Chilapan, Real Tenochtitlan, Mixteco, Oaxaqueña, and obviously the Rick Bayless places downtown. Big Star is excellent as well.

Los Nopales - 4544 N. Western Ave.
Mixteco - 1601 W. Montrose Ave.
Chilapan - 2459 W. Armitage Ave.
Real Tenochtitlan - 2451 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Oaxaqueña - 3382 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Taco Burrito Place is greasy mexican. Considering Jesse's idea of a great restaurant doesn't seem to go beyond fast food and nationwide chain restaurants, I'm not sure that you and him look for the same things in a mexican place.

I can't remember the name of this place, but there's a good Mexican restaurant on the corner of Roscoe and Ashland.

Otherwise, Attrill's recomendations will work.

Tacos with iceberg lettuce and tomatoes aren't exactly home-style Mexican. The more traditional filling is meat, onion and cilantro. Their climate isn't conducive to growing lettuce.

Have you tried Taco Bell?

La Pasadita at 1141 N. Ashland is really good. Not overly greasy and definitely authentic.

La Pasadita is nasty. Everything in Lakeview is nasty for that matter... And when I mean nasty, not spit it out nasty, just bland, and americanized.
Why not go up to Rogers Park, or to Pilsen/Little Village or Cicero... I find the sub 7-10 dollar mexican food in other places bordering on terrible besides some gourmet spots in river north such as Bayless.
Mixteco and El Barco Mariscos are the only good mexican I've had on the whiter northside, sans what I mentioned.
The place right next to Mixteco on Montrose is nasty, wait in line at Mixteco.
The places Attril mentioned I have heard of but, haven't been
