You are extremely lucky - well no, you're in Chicago. In rural Illinois we pay 4-5 times more than you for fresh veggies and fruits. The flip side is we don't have the high taxes or as much traffic. It is not necessarily a good thing. There is an old saw, "Be careful what you wish for; you might get it."

I have to tell you, though, it was fun to walk outside and pick fresh oranges and lemons from the trees.

Mocking people for their nice weather, just makes their argument even stronger and makes the people doing so look jealous. Outside of the denser high rise tracks outside of the lake areas, LA is more consistently dense for longer, and denser into the suburbs as well...The CSA is also 17.8 Million people. Chicago's is 9.5.You'd need to just about double Chicago's population in the same general area.
Chicago is easily the 2nd biggest feeling downtown and probably out to about the 100sq mile range, and it is pretty far ahead of anywhere else, and probably 3rd largest feeling metro, w/ several right on it's tail.

This.

Thank you.

I don't have a beef with NYC or most any other city. The truth is NYC would overwhelm me in a New York second. It would be no surprise. Because of movies and huge public/telvised events there are certain things I would really like to see.

Default Tomball Texas - part of the 4th largest

I live just outside of Houston, in Tomball Texas. I can't say that Houston feels like the 4th largest. It feels smaller. Mod Cut
