I am speaking of the neighborhood Albany Park not the "community area."

I wouldn't want to do that every day, especially after it starts getting dark early.

I haven't been to any of the beaches up there, but i regularly walk between Touhy/Western and the Howard station and I've never had a problem.

In all honesty, I would not be afraid to walk down Howard between Sheridan and Western at any time of day. The police patrol that area an insane amount. Driving that stretch you will see at least two cop cars minimum.
That said, I would not venture to any of the side streets just north of howard.
To add: I live at Lunt and Sheridan and have not had any issues walking to/from the red line at all hours of night. One thing I have noticed is that most of the crime in Rogers Park is not random. If you mind your p's and q's, you shouldnt have any issues.
Now, there are exceptions. I believe it was New Years when a bartender and a couple patrons were closing up shop and got jumped on the way to the station.

I never said I personally would be afraid. But a good amount caution needs to be used especially if you are an attractive young woman.
Just wait until it gets warmer and the summer sun starts beating down.

I actually walk down Touhy/Rogers i.e. the Pace bus route when it gets annoying long to wait for it.

I'm a single woman looking to rent around the greenview/lunt intersection. Should I reconsider? I'm familiar with the area, but didn't realize crime was increasing. I'd always heard good things about Rogers Park.

That is two blocks west of me. I have a friend that lives in that general area and she has not encountered any problems. If you are familiar with the area, and use common sense, you should be fine.
Plus, you will be right by Heartland Cafe, which is always a plus.

That's good to hear. Last time I lived in Chicago, I was at Grace and lakeshore in Wrigleyville. I didn't have any problems there, but wanted something a little bigger that was near public transportation. I'm just a little leery after reading the Rogers Park crime blog, and moving to a new city is always a little scary!
